Explanation of Statistical Data Page ("Race Page")RACE PAGES for each AGSC Division are printed in INDEX PAGE order of descending quality by (1) Grade and (2) cumulative average NARC Ranking. The right-hand RACE PAGE shows statistical information and the chart of the most recent renewal of the race; the left-hand RACE PAGE shows charts of up to four additional renewals. The right-hand RACE PAGE sets forth the following information: A. Top Line(s)The top line contains the name of the race, followed by the abbreviation of the name of the racetrack where its most recent renewal was conducted and the date of the most recent renewal. This is followed by the abbreviation for the division in which the race is contested. At the extreme right of the top line(s) are two sets of five numbers in parenthesis indicating for the most recent grading year (from left to right): total number of eligible races; number of Grade I races; number of Grade II races; number of Grade III races; number of ungraded races. The upper set shows these numbers for all eligible races for the age and sex conditions of the race; the lower set shows these numbers for the AGSC Division of the race. B. RankingsThis section sets forth by year, for as many as five of the race’s most recent eligible renewals conducted under similar conditions, the race’s ranking relative to all other races within its division. In the event that the race has been eligible for fewer than five renewals, the rankings are calculated on the lesser number. Rankings are set forth in three categories: by NARC Rates, by Points, and by Percentage of Graded Stakes Winners. The far right column indicates the cumulative average ranking for each category; this is calculated by dividing the number of renewals into the sum of all renewals’ ranking. Cumulative average rankings appear on the INDEX PAGE. For divisions other than Two-year-olds and Sprints (male and female), renewals conducted over a surface other than that for which the race is being considered are not included in the cumulative average. C. SpecificationsThis section summarizes the conditions by year for each of the most recent eligible renewals of the race. Each column sets forth the Grade for that year’s renewal; the distance in furlongs; the surface over which the race was conducted (“D” for dirt, “T” for turf); the purse in $1,000’s and whether this amount was added or guaranteed (“A” or “G”); and the number of starters in the race. If the race was split, the number of starters in all split divisions is followed by /2 or /3, as appropriate. If a race was scheduled for turf and switched to dirt due to weather conditions, this change in surface is indicated by (lowercase) “d”. D. PointsThis section sets forth the total sum of Points accrued by the horses in each renewal of the race. Each horse is assigned a Point value based upon its best performance in the 24 months before and after the race, including performance in the renewal of the race under consideration, as follows:
Restricted stakes events are not considered in these calculations. For each renewal, the number of runners assigned each Point value is shown, followed in parentheses by the number of runners which have won a Graded Stakes of that Point value. Total Points for each renewal are calculated by multiplying the number of horses at each Point-level by the Point value of that Point-level, and then summing the products. If a race has been split, the Total Points are divided by the number of split divisions when calculating the cumulative average Points of the race. The far right column indicates the cumulative average Points; this is calculated by dividing the number of renewals into the sum of all renewals’ Total Points. Cumulative average Points appear on the INDEX PAGE. For divisions other than Two-year-olds and Sprints (male and female), renewals conducted over a surface other than that for which the race is being considered are not included in the cumulative average. E. Quality PointsThis section shows for each renewal the number of runners in the field which during the course of the 24 months before and after the race, including the race in question, have won a Grade I race (G1 Quality Point); a Grade I or Grade II race (G2 Quality Point); a Grade I, Grade II, or Grade III race (G3 Quality Point). The number in parentheses on the SIX line under POINTS is the number of G1 Quality Points; add to this the number in parentheses on the FOUR line under POINTS to get the number of G2 Quality Points; add to that sum the number in parentheses on the THREE line under POINTS to get the number of G3 Quality Points. When applicable, an italicized superscript number at the immediate upper right of the Quality Points numbers for each renewal will indicate the number of Quality Points in that renewal which were contributed by horses as a result of Graded/Group wins outside the United States. The far right column indicates the cumulative averages of G1, G2, and G3 Quality Points; these averages are calculated by dividing the number of renewals into the sum of all renewals’ Quality Points. Cumulative average G1, G2, and G3 Quality Points appear on the INDEX PAGE. For divisions other than Two-year-olds and Sprints (male and female), renewals conducted over a surface other than that for which the race is being considered are not included in the cumulative average. F. NARC Rates, Points, PercentagesNARC Rates: This number serves as an expression of each renewal’s race quality based on past performances of horses in the field as evaluated by the North American Rating Committee (NARC). NARC is a panel of racing secretaries, each of whom every week assigns a hypothetical weight (“Rating”) to every horse competing in an open black-type stakes event conducted in North America with a purse of at least $75,000. These Ratings reflect the performance of that horse in that event, and the NARC rating for that horse is the average of the panel secretaries’ assignments. Excepting two-year-olds, the panel assigns ratings in accord with specific Categories of race by distance and surface (“SMIL” Categories), and the rating of a horse is specific to that category.
The NARC RATE for each renewal of the race under consideration is derived by allocating to each runner in the field the highest NARC rating achieved by that runner in the year of that renewal in the SMIL Category of that race, and averaging the highest four allocated NARC Ratings. The far right column indicates the cumulative average NARC RATE of the race under consideration; this average is calculated by dividing the number of renewals into the sum of all renewals’ NARC RATES. Cumulative average NARC RATES appear on the INDEX PAGE. For divisions other than Two-year-olds and Sprints (male and female), renewals conducted over a surface other than that for which the race is being considered are not included in the cumulative average. Points: These numbers set forth the Total Points for each renewal, as indicated above in the POINTS Section. Percentages: These numbers set forth the percentage of Graded Stakes winners in the field in each renewal of the race under consideration. The Percentage for each renewal is calculated by dividing the G3 Quality Points into the number of starters. The far right column indicates the cumulative average percentage of Graded Stakes winners of the race under consideration; this average is calculated by dividing the sum of G3 Quality Points for all renewals into the sum of all starters in all renewals. Cumulative average Percentages appear on the Index Page. For divisions other than Two-year-olds and Sprints (male and female), renewals conducted over a surface other than that for which the race is being considered are not included in the cumulative average. G. Race ChartThe RACE CHART at the bottom of the right-hand RACE PAGE sets forth the results of the most recent renewal of the race under consideration; the opposite, left-hand, page sets forth results information for up to four prior renewals (if four charts do not fit on the left-hand page, the overflow charts will be found at the back of the workbook). The top lines of each RACE CHART show the name, racetrack, and date of the renewal; distance of the race; surface and track condition; winner’s time; total purse value; and number of starters. Below the top lines the RACE CHART sets forth (reading left to right):
